LABOR CONGRATULATES ETHNIC BUSINESS AWARDS WINNERS AND FINALISTS

07 November 2015

Labor congratulates the outstanding finalists and winners of the 27th Ethnic Business Awards held in Adelaide overnight.

The Ethnic Business Awards are Australia’s longest running business awards program and celebrate the economic and social contribution made by members of our diverse communities.

Taking out this year’s Awards were:

·          Indigenous in Business category - RBY Projects (Derek Flucker, QLD)

·       Small Business category - ALT.VFX (Takeshi Takada, QLD)

·          Medium to Large Business category - Cedar Meats (Joseph Kairouz, VIC)

All the finalists of this year’s Ethnic Business Awards are inspirational role models and they remind us of the great entrepreneurial spirit that is so much a part of our multiculturalism.

This has also been highlighted by recent ABS data which found humanitarian migrants display “greater entrepreneurial qualities” and report “a higher proportion of income from their own unincorporated businesses” which increases sharply after five years of residency.

Labor is proud of this rich diversity and believes multiculturalism should be at the heart of economic and social policy so we can better harness the outstanding potential of our diverse communities.
