APPOINTMENT TO THE SHADOW MINISTRY

It is a great privilege to be appointed to the shadow portfolios of Citizenship and Multiculturalism and Assisting on Communications.

To be appointed to Labor’s Shadow Ministry is an extremely humbling experience and I am very thankful to be given this opportunity.

In both the multicultural affairs and communications spaces, I look forward to actively engaging with all stakeholders and communities to ensure Labor is developing the right policies for all Australians.

I would also like to pay tribute to all my predecessors in multicultural affairs, including the work done by Kate Lundy and Matt Thistlethwaite and I will look to build on the fantastic relationships they have fostered with different communities across the country.

I would also like to acknowledge the great efforts of Stephen Conroy, Anthony Albanese, Sharon Bird and Ed Husic in their previous roles in the communications portfolio. I am very keen to continue that great work with the new Shadow Minister Jason Clare.

Access to affordable, high-speed broadband is universally recognised as integral to productivity and equality of opportunity in all aspects of civil society. I look forward to working as part of Labor’s team to prosecute the case to deliver the National Broadband Network for the benefit of all Australians.
