LABOR WELCOMES RELEASE OF ANTI-RACISM STRATEGY REPORT

08 July 2015

Labor welcomes the release of the Human Rights Commission’s evaluation and future directions report for the National Anti-Racism Strategy and the Racism. It Stops With Me campaign.

The National Anti-Racism Strategy was launched in 2012 to empower people to prevent racism from happening and to reduce it in their communities.

The report finds that: “awareness of racism and how best to respond to it is growing, and behaviour change is occurring, within individuals, organisations and communities reached by the Strategy.”

This is encouraging news which highlights the benefits of the Strategy and the Commission’s work.

The debilitating impact racism has on people cannot be underestimated.  It is insidious and it prevents Australians from fully engaging with the community and feeling that they belong.

Labor strongly supports the Strategy and the ongoing work of the Commission in empowering Australians to prevent racism in the community.
