ALL MULTICULTURAL GRANTS FACING THE ABBOTT AXE

The Abbott Government has put local multicultural groups in jeopardy, demonstrating once again that it has no interest in supporting projects that will foster social cohesion in our communities. In Question Time today the Minister for Social Services, Kevin Andrews, revealed that all grants to multicultural groups under the Building Multicultural Communities Program, announced by Labor in Government and fully funded in the 2013-14 Budget, are facing the Abbott axe. KEVIN ANDREWS MUST HONOUR MULTICULTURAL GRANTS

More than 400 not-for-profit groups, community organisations and local governments across Australia are being denied up to $14.2 million in Commonwealth funding and are extremely concerned about the Abbott Government’s potential cuts to the Building Multicultural Communities Program. These grants were awarded under proper procedures and were fully funded in the 2013-14 Budget.  Successful applicants were notified and rightly expect to receive this funding. But it now looks increasingly likely that those grants will be cut. Continue reading

Malcolm Turnbull says: Blacktown, you’ve got it good enough

Malcolm Turnbull visited Blacktown last Friday.  I think the last time he was in Blacktown was to launch my Liberal opponent’s campaign in Greenway.  But I digress. Turnbull posted some silly tweets and uploaded a ridiculous video in which he starred with his new (part-time) Executive Chairman of the board of NBNCo, Dr Ziggy Switkowski. I largely ignored Turnbull’s comments until he repeated them in Parliament this morning and again in Question Time today. Continue reading
