MEDIA RELEASE - LIBERALS STILL FAILING NORTH-WEST SYDNEY - 21 AUGUST 2019

Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland MP, has called on the NSW Liberal Government to reverse its unfair decision to cut local bus services to the city.

Thousands of residents have signed petitions demanding that bus services axed following the opening of the North-West Metro be restored. Ms Rowland recently made formal representations to the NSW Minister for Transport to raise her objections to cuts.

“I’ve been contacted by scores of local residents frustrated a trip to the CBD that once took a single bus now requires changing three or four times”, Ms Rowland said.

“These are working people and university students who deserve better transport services”.

While welcoming the reported intervention of the NSW Liberal Treasurer to try and have services restored in Cherrybrook, Ms Rowland maintained that the allocation of bus services must be about need and not favouritism.

“North-West Sydney is rapidly expanding. As Schofields and Riverstone continue to grow, we need a diverse number of transport solutions – not just one”, Ms Rowland said.

“The refusal of a number of Liberal MPs in this area to speak up about this issue shows just how out-of-touch they are”.

This is not the first time Ms Rowland has raised a lack of transport infrastructure with the NSW Government. Over many years, Ms Rowland facilitated a community campaign to upgrade parking at Schofields train station, culminating in a pre-election backflip by the Liberals.

“Local commuters are suffering. This just is not good enough”.
