Labor is deeply saddened by the death of Mr Nick Xynias AO.
Mr Xynias made a substantial contribution to multiculturalism in Queensland and was one of the most active voices for people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
His establishment of the Ethnic Communities Council of Queensland (ECCQ) was a turning point for multiculturalism in Queensland, providing much needed support and advocacy for countless communities across the state.
He was scheduled to be honoured by the ECCQ for his services to multiculturalism next month.
I express my sincere condolences to his wife and children, as well as the many people he worked closely with at the ECCQ.
Australia is a better place for Mr Xynias’ outstanding work.
