SPEECH - ADDRESS TO THE NEW SOUTH WALES JEWISH BOARD OF DEPUTIES - 14 JULY 2016

When I was researching this speech, I discovered the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies has an official policy on anti-racism. What could be a more worthy goal than “working for the betterment of the community and all of humanity”? Continue reading

SPEECH - AFRICA DAY CELEBRATION, BLACKTOWN - 28 MAY 2016

**CHECK AGAINST DELIVERY** (Acknowledgements omitted) We are here to celebrate the mass independence of African countries from colonisation in the 1950s and 1960s. For far too long, people across Africa in many different countries were governed not according to their own direction or by members of their own community but from foreign capitals. SPEECH - TROPICAL CYCLONE WINSTON - 29 FEBRUARY 2016

My Fijian heritage is something I am very proud of. My mother was born in Fiji. One of my brothers and my sister was born there. My father lived there for many years and I still have many relatives there. I was there in 2014—along with the member for Kingsford Smith, who is here in the chamber tonight also—as part of the international observer delegation when democracy was brought back to Fiji. I took my husband and my daughter there for the first time last year.   Continue reading
