Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland said this year’s Budget is a victory for thousands of local residents with a disability, their families and their carers.
“This Budget is a victory for those that need it most. It is a victory for around 3,200 disabled people I represent who are eligible for support under DisabilityCare,” Ms Rowland said.
“This Budget sets the National Disability Insurance Scheme in stone and ends the cruel lottery of disability care as it currently stands.
“For too long, Governments have failed to reform services for the profoundly disabled.
“This Budget changes that. Fully delivering DisabilityCare will ensure the level of support someone receives doesn’t depend on when or where they were born or when they acquire a disability.”
Ms Rowland also said the fully funding of the Gonski education reforms would benefit every single school and every single child in Greenway.
“This Budget fully funds the Gonski education reforms meaning every student will receive a great education no matter where they live,” Ms Rowland said.
“Education is the great enabler and local parents want their children to have the best opportunities in life. This is a victory for them.”
More local investments also included:
- $23,500 for 23 Creative Young Stars grants in the Greenway electorate – this program encourages participation of young people (up to 25 years) in creative, cultural, academic and community events or training.
- Extra funding for a new computer and touchscreen monitor for Greenway’s broadband kiosks – including, Riverstone Neighbourhood Centre, Uniting Care Ageing – Western Region – Mallauna Village, SydWest Multicultural Services in Blacktown, St Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Blacktown, UPA Sydney West – Melrose Village in Pendle Hill, Seventh Day Adventist Aged Care in Kings Langley
- Active After-School Communities program – Additional funding to extend this program which engages children in sport and other structured physical activities in the after-school timeslot. This is currently benefiting 890 Greenway children.
- Increasing the amount that people on Parenting Payments and Newstart Allowance can earn before their payments are affected, which will mean people can take home $494 extra per year – this will immediately benefit 659 people in Greenway and potentially benefit 4,153 more people should they move into work.
- WestConnex link – the Federal Budget provides more than $1.8 billion (capped) towards the WestConnex Link, which will extend the M4 (separate media release on the WestConnex link to come).
