MEDIA RELEASE - LIBERAL MINISTER THUMBS HIS NOSE AT LOCAL TRANSPORT CONCERNS - 29 AUGUST 2019

29 August 2019

Federal Member for Greenway, Michelle Rowland MP, says local residents will be appalled by the refusal of the NSW Minister for Transport to respond to local concerns about bus cuts.

Instead, the Minister has passed the buck on this increasingly contentious issue to the Parliamentary Secretary for Transport and Roads, Ms Eleni Petinos MP.

Ms Rowland dismissed the response [attached] as patronising and disinterested.

“Have a look at this nonsense reply”, Ms Rowland said.

“Commuters are essentially being told to ‘suck it up, catch the Metro and change at Chatswood or Epping’ when they could previously catch a single bus to the CBD”.

“The Minister has thumbed his nose at the commuters of North-West Sydney yet again”.

“This is a serious issue and residents have every right to be frustrated with local Liberal representatives who are pretending there’s nothing to see here”.

“The Parliamentary Secretary might as well change her title to the Parliamentary Secretary for Condescending Travel Advice, because that’s all she’s offered locals”.

“Commuters already know they can catch the Metro and change multiple times to get to the same destination previously accessible by one bus – that’s why they’re rightly angry”.

“I’ve had scores of constituents contact me about the lack of parking at North-West Metro stations, the speed at which doors are closing on residents with limited mobility, and we’ve seen reports of Metro trains departing and separating parents from their infant children”.

Ms Rowland has called on the NSW Government to stop shirking its responsibility and resolve this matter quickly.

“Local residents are suffering. This is not good enough”, Ms Rowland MP said.
