MEDIA RELEASE - MICHELLE ROWLAND RECOGNISES COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR THE NAPPY COLLECTIVE IN PARLIAMENT - 24 MAY 2017

24 May 2017

Michelle Rowland has thanked residents for their enormous generosity in supporting The Nappy Collective in a speech to Parliament on Tuesday 23 May.

Michelle Rowland spoke in the House of Representatives chamber about the enormous amount of donations received this year. She made particular note of Jenny Ousta, Rebecca Luburic and Mary Garacitano, who together brought in over 5160 nappies to her office in Seven Hills to donate.

The Nappy Collective program runs Australia-wide with the aim to collect tens of thousands of leftover nappies that will then be sorted and distributed to women’s shelters, programs for homeless mothers and young mothers in need.

Through the support of parents across Australia, The Nappy Collective has collected over 1.75 million nappies which have been distributed to mothers in need.

The Collective ran from Friday 5 May until Friday 19 May 2017, during which time Michelle Rowland’s office was a drop-off point for The Nappy Collective.

“Every donation helps parents and babies who are in need ”, Ms Rowland said.

“I have been heartened by the generosity of so many in our community,” Ms Rowland said.

“We had three women, who were collecting together, drop off 5160 nappies for this worthy cause,” Ms Rowland said.
